The Manchester Water and Sewer Department (MWSD) is updating its water service line inventory and will notify customers of service lines containing lead, galvanized iron, or unknown materials. This is in accordance with the EPA’s updated Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), effective October 8, 2024, and aligns with the Town’s commitment to public health.

MWSD will notify affected customers by letter, requesting their cooperation in completing an online survey to assist with verifying service line details. The current inventory includes approximately 16,100 service lines. Of these, the Department identified over 4,900 as non-lead, 460 as galvanized iron which will require replacement, and less than 10 have been identified as lead. This leaves nearly 11,000 services with unknown materials to be identified.

Important Information for all Residents:

  • Please complete the following survey to verify your service line materials by December 15th on the MWSD website:

  • For more information on our water service line inventory program and to access our interactive service line materials map visit: https://manct.us/PIPEINFO

The goal is to replace all lead and galvanized service connections within ten years. The Town will pursue funding from the $3 billion allocated by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help cover replacement costs and will provide updates on these future funding opportunities.
