The South Windsor Community Band will present “Preludes for Peace”, a program designed to inspire harmony and community during times of discord at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. Auditorium in the Art, Science and Technology building at the Connecticut State Community College, Manchester, CT.  The concert is free, and free-will offerings will be accepted.

In a world that is witnessing conflict in multiple venues, the program focuses on music that demonstrates a triumph over adversity, both internal and external.  Scheduled works include John Williams, haunting Hymn to the Fallen from the motion picture Saving Private Ryan, two works by Frank Tichelli: Joy Revisited and Rest, and One Life Beautiful by Emmy Award-winning composer Julie Giroux.

The band will be led by music director Dr. Deborah Simmons, who will share the podium with a number of guest conductors from the band.

Free-will offerings are appreciated but not expected.  Proceeds will go to the band and the music program at Manchester Community College.

The South Windsor Community Band is a concert band that got its start in 1995 with just 15 adult musicians who may not have played their instruments since high school.  Today the band is more than 50 musicians strong and draws from talents of amateur and professional musicians and educators.  The SWCB performs numerous concerts in South Windsor and the surrounding areas throughout the year.
