South Windsor Community Band Celebrates Americana in Concert

The South Windsor Community Band “Celebrates Americana” in concert 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. Auditorium in the Art, Science and Technology building at the Connecticut State Community College, Manchester, CT. The concert is free, and free-will offerings will be accepted.

The program is a diverse slice of the American experience, honoring heroes and the American way of life. Works planned include All Glory Told, by James Swearingen, Steven Reineke’s captivating River of Life, and Toccata for Band the beloved classic by Frank Erickson.

The concert will also be filled with light moments, with some favorite American film music including highlights from Frozen, and music from the film now celebrating its 30th anniversary, The Lion King, as well as American icon John Williams’ March from the film 1941.

The band will be led by music director Dr. Deborah Simmons, and esteemed guest conductors from the band will share the stage for selected works.

Free-will offerings are appreciated but not expected. Proceeds will go to the band and the music program at Manchester Community College.

The South Windsor Community Band is a concert band that got its start in 1995 with just 15 adult musicians who may not have played their instruments since high school. Today the band is more than 50 musicians strong and draws from talents of amateur and professional musicians and educators. The SWCB performs numerous concerts in South Windsor and the surrounding areas throughout the year.
